Ever feel like you’re looking too far ahead in your life and missing out on the beautiful present? Do you ever look at the future and tell yourself, “I’ll be so much happier or content if this or that happens?” As human beings we can all relate to that kind of thinking and it almost always breeds worry, fear, uncertainty, and discontent.

Tyler Wagner is a wonderful example of taking joy not in your destination but in the journey in its entirety. Happiness regardless of where you are in life is the destination. These are several of the techniques Tyler Wagner shared with Harvey and Dave as he dove into his story and revealed some of the tools that are in his tool box.

Born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada Tyler grew up playing shortstop and third base and began his collegiate career at the University of Utah as a shortstop. He earned no playing time his freshman year and it wasn’t until his sophomore year that it became clear he wasn’t going to play as a shortstop. This was when the idea of pitching began to take shape between Tyler and his coaches. This was a very big moment in Tyler’s life and career and instead of fighting it he let go, embraced his transition, humbled himself, and put some trust in his coaching staff and himself. Tyler made a full on position change in his junior year of college from shortstop to pitcher, and this allowed him to be drafted in the 4th round by the Milwaukee Brewers in 2012.

Listen in as Tyler tells us about his travels through the minor leagues of professional baseball and how he used the book ‘The Power of Now’ to anchor his footing and keep his mindset firmly planted in the present. Tyler made his Major League Debut in 2015 and has pitched with the Brewers, Arizona Diamondbacks, and now with the Texas Rangers organization.

Using books has been a consistent and steadfast way for Tyler to truly make some of his systems and techniques effective. He is a wonderful example of a person who makes LOVE the backbone of his life on the field and off. Meditation, Sensory Deprivation Chambers, Reading, and being joyful in each moment of his life are just a few of the pillars that make up his foundation and allow him to sustain excellence and love!
