Harvey often considers himself the ‘smart one’ of the Mart and the Fishbowl duo. His birth name is Harvard after all. It is certainly up for debate but he will not hesitate to anoint himself with this title. He admits his grading is low when it comes to the ‘wittiness factor’ which he hands over to Dave without reproach. Perhaps Ol Marty has some smarts after all. With that being said, in this week’s episode both titles would be put to the test as the guys had a wonderful exchange with a man by the name of Brent Suter.

Brent Suter was born in Chicago, Illinois and moved around quite a bit coming up before finally calling Cincinnati, Ohio his home. It was here that he met his future wife who he has now been married to for a year and a half. Their little dog Wally rounds out the Suter family.

Brent Suter is now a pitcher in the major leagues with the Milwaukee Brewers but as with all stories, much of the beauty and intrigue came with his journey to get there. Not highly touted as a baseball player coming up through high school Brent wanted to be sure and attend a school that allowed him to play baseball but more importantly a school that afforded him a great education. As you will learn Brent is a man who is focused on keeping his foundation solid and balanced.

So what does a high school baseball player do to try and attract some college attention? Send in coaching referrals? A breakdown of your high school stats? How about   make a video of yourself dunking a basketball?! Not the answer you were expecting? Well that includes Dave and Harvey, but that is exactly what Brent did and that is exactly what drew Harvard’s interest in him (the college, not Marty). It was at this point in Brent’s story that Harvey had to eat a large piece of humble pie as he was forced to remember Dave posterizing him in their own games of basketball. Not even sure he was hungry. At any rate this display of athleticism and the boldness to set himself apart in a recruiting video peeked Harvard’s curiosity in Brent and after seeing him play in a baseball showcase decided to offer him a scholarship to play baseball and attend school at one of the most prestigious academic institutions in the world.

Listen in as Brent gives us great insight into staying in the moment (becoming a common theme), learning from failure, keeping balance outside the field, and seizing the opportunities you are given in life. A man of deep faith, Suter’s love for God allows him to lay his worries down and live a life of joy and happiness. His unconditional love for his wife and family, his meditation and prayer life, his interest in song and dance, and some different books are just a couple of the things that help keep him in a place of peace. Also, don’t miss out on one of the more ‘personal’ techniques Brent uses to ‘release’ negative energy before games. If you’re listening to this while using the restroom prepare to practice. So dive in with Marty and Dave as they peel back the layers on the very interesting Brent Suter.
